Many of us are not careful of our word of Honors. We often make promises and break them because we tend to follow the saying, "Promises are meant to be broken". But hey don't forget you are a Christian, exceptional being, you do it the other way around. Promises are meant to be fulfilled or else you'll bear consequences of losing the trust you have invested on. Are you careful enough?
The ASEAN or what we call the Association of Southeast Asian Nations remind us how important it is to fulfill the duties of the treaties you signed.
Did you know that Association of Southeast Asian Nations is composed of ten countries as the ten yellow lines in the logo signifies? The ten countries are Brunei Darusallam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Burma, Laos, Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand. This Association was established in 1967 with an "...aim to accelerate economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region and to promote regional peace and stability through the rule of law and adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter " (http://www.dfat.gov.au/asean/index.html). Summing up it focuses on promoting peace and diplomacy and also encourage developed countries to help the undeveloped countries rise in their economic status. In this association it is always important to keep your word because everything is in paper.
There are many instances in the Bible that agreements and peace talks were formed. Most of them between God and man agreements. We need to understand that whenever a treaty is formed it should not be broken or else there are great consequences. E.g. is God's treaty with the Israelites in Deutoronomy 7:12-15,
"12If you completely obey these laws, the LORD your God will be loyal and keep the agreement he made with you, just as he promised our ancestors. 13The LORD will love you and bless you by giving you many children and plenty of food, wine, and olive oil. Your herds of cattle will have many calves, and your flocks of sheep will have many lambs. 14God will bless you more than any other nation--your families will grow and your livestock increase. 15You will no longer suffer with the same horrible diseases that you sometimes had in Egypt. You will be healthy, but the LORD will make your enemies suffer from those diseases."
Making treaties are the same with making promises. As Christians who are reaching out to the world we must be careful on the words of promises we say. We must be careful to keep our word of honor so as not to destroy the name of Christ. Do not promise anything if you're not sure if you can fulfill it. It is better to say no than to promise and not fulfill because you save the person from being hurt, disappointed, and offended by you. Let your yes be yes and your no be no.
Are you careful Enough with the words that you say? It's time to WATCH OUT! If you're friends are used to breaking promises MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND START FULFILLING YOUR PROMISES.
